REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
On Remembrance Sunday, a special service was held at the English Martyr Church, Haydock, Rev. Fr. J. Callaghan (curate) offered Mass and afterwards prayers for all members of the Services who have fallen in the war. A catafalque was created near the altar draped in purple. The rector, Rev. Fr. Gray, was the preacher, and the music of the Mass was sung by the choir under the leadership of Fr. Gray. The organist was Mr. P.....
There were appropriate remembrance services at all the local churches.

1120097 Sergeant Horace Pilling Norcross, 115 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Died 29th October 1942, aged 28. Son of Herbert P. and Emma Norcross, of Haydock.
SERGT.-OBSERVER REPORTED MISSING
News has been received that Sgt.-Obs. Horace Norcross, R.A.F., is missing. Sgt. Norcross is the son of Mr. Herbert and the late Mrs. Emma Norcross, of 81 Kenyon's-lane, Haydock.
He was educated at Ashton-in-Makerfield Grammar School, and for a time was librarian at the Haydock Memorial Library, afterwards joining the office staff at the Mental Hospital, Winwick.
A keen footballer, before joining the R.A.F. he played for Haydock C. and B. Club, Haydock Athletic, and Earlestown White Star. While in the Air Force he won a medal for playing, and was frequently the team-mate of many first division and international footballers in important Air Force matches.
