REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
Observances at Parr
The observances at Parr on Sunday consisted of two Church parades at St. Peter's Church and St. Vincent's Catholic Church, Derbyshire Hill. Included in the parade were members of the Parr branch of the British Legion, under Col. A. A. W. Merrick and Mr. J. Critchley, the British Legion (Central Branch), under Mr. R. Litherland, British Legion (thatto Heath branch), under Mr. W. Burrows.
The standard bearers for the Legion were Messrs. Williams, Alcock and Rigby. The Parr Squadron of the A.T.C. were under Flight Lt. T. F. Johnson and F.O.'s J. P. W. Horrocks, E. Rennie and Bowen. These were followed by Parr Central W.J.A.C., under Miss Lenn and Miss Peet, St. Vincent's W.J.A.C., under Miss Maguire and Miss Corrigan, Peasley Cross W.J.A.C., under Miss Sharkey and Miss Littler.
A.R.P. services from the A.I. Post were lead by Messrs. Wilson and Forster.
At the saluting base at the Horse Shoe Garage, Broad Oak-road, were the then Mayor (Counc. J. E. Hughes, J.P. and Col. A. A. W. Merrick.
Wreaths were laid at Parr St. Peter's by Messrs. F. Swift, Col. A. A. W. Merrick, Capt. Harrison ("B" Coy.), Lieut. Greensmith and Messrs. Wilson and Forster (A.R.P.).
The service at Parr St. Peter's Church was conducted by the Vicar (Rev. A. V. Diamond), and popular hymns were sung, with special prayers.
