A HERO'S DEATH. - The sympathy of the residents of Nutgrove will be extended to Mr. and Mrs. George Fripp, of 30, Reservoir-street, in the sad bereavement they have sustained in the loss of their youngest son George, who fell in action on December 30th. The official news was received on Tuesday evening from the War Office. Deceased, who worked as a joiner previous to the war, was a former member of the Ravenhead Harriers, and attended the Nutgrove Wesleyan Chapel. The gallant young soldier, who enlisted the day after Lord Derby addressed the meeting at the St. Helens Theatre, in the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers, was only 20 years of age, and had risen to the rank of corporal. Natives of Nutgrove, the family are well-known and highly respected, Mr. Fripp being foreman of the Brown Edge Water Softening Works of the St. Helens Corporation.
(St Helens Reporter, 28 January 1916)
George Fripp is named on the memorial at St John's Church, Ravenhead.
