K/23363 Stoker 1st Class Herbert Seager, Royal Navy H.M.S. "Tiger" Died 20th December 1915, aged 26. Husband of Lily Seager, of 152, Park Road, Adlington.ADLINGTON STOKER DROWNED. Stoker T. Seager, of H.M.S. "Tiger," and whose home was in Park-road, Adlington, has been accidentally drowned. He only returned from a home leave last Monday week. He leaves a widow and one child. The body was conveyed to Adlington, and the funeral took place on Christmas Day at Adlington Cemetery. Seager was 26 years of age, and followed employment at Wallsuches Bleachworks, Horwich. Son of Edward and Mary Ann Robinson, of 113, Railway Road, Adlington. CWGC database gives his date of death as 19th December 1915.Information has been received of the death of Lance-Corporal Robert Robinson, 10th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, whose home was at Red House Bridge, Adlington. Robinson was shot on December 18th by a sniper. He was formerly employed at Huyton Bleachworks, and was a single man. He worshipped at St. Paul's Church, Adlington. Died 1st December 1915, aged 19.ADLINGTON SOLDIER DIES FROM EXPOSURE. Information has been received of the death, on December 1st, from exposure, whilst serving at the Dardanelles, of Private Alex. Brooks, of the Lancashire Fusiliers. He was the son of Mr. James Brooks, of the Farmers' Arms, Adlington. Private Brooks enlisted on June 22nd last, and went to the Dardanelles in September. Prior to enlisting he worked at the Huyton Bleachworks, and worshipped at St. Paul's Church. He was 19 years of age. A memorial service was held at the Parish Church, Adlington, on Sunday morning, for the four Adlington men who have recently given up their lives whilst serving their country, when the relatives and friends and a large congregation attended. The men were: - Stoker Herbert Seager, H.M.S. "Tiger," accidentally drowned; Lance-Corporal Robert Robinson, 10th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, killed by a sniper in France; Private J. W. Baines, 8th Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, shot through the head by a sniper in France; and Private Alex. Brooks, Lancashire Fusiliers, who died from exposure while serving in the Gallipoli Peninsula. After the third collect, a special form of memorial service was read, and special funeral hymns were sung by the congregation. The Vicar (the Rev. T. H. Minett) preached from the text, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." At the conclusion of the service, the Dead March in "Saul" was played by Mr. Stubbs, the organist. Son of Mrs. Woosey, of 3, Ollerton Street, Adlington. Tom Harper, Lancashire Fusiliers, whose home is Bolton-road, Adlington, has been promoted second lieutenant in the field. He was one of the early recruits from Adlington to Kitchener's Army. Killed in action on 13th September 1918, aged 21. Son of John and Elizabeth Urmston, of 50, Railway Road, Adlington.52902 Private Walter Higson, 1st/7th Lancashire Fusiliers. Killed on 23rd October 1918, aged 19. Stepson of Mrs. Esther Higson, of 7, Atherton Street, Adlington.6615 Lance Serjeant William Edward Moss, 6th Lancashire Fusiliers. Killed in action in France on 8th November 1918, aged 21. Mentioned in Despatches. Son of William and Alice Moss, of 6, Back Railway View, Adlington.
