The men from the 2nd V.B.E.L. Their names are as follows : - Lieutenant Ramsbottom (Accrington); Private G. Robins, W. Cox, B. V. Tyler, and R. Howarth (Burnley); Private J. W. Sharples (Padiham); Sergeant W. Rishton, Privates A. H. Frost and Catterall (Accrington); Privates A. Ashcroft and W. Barton (Lytham); Private A. Davies (Bacup); Privates W. Heap and H. Kenyon (Ramsbottom). The men will proceed to Fulwood Barracks, Preston, on Wednesday evening, to go through the necessary courses of training, and they will also take a course of musketry at Fleetwood. Altogether over 70 men volunteered, but the remainder had not the necessary physical and other requirements, the weak point generally being musketry. (Lancashire Daily Post, 3 February 1902)
