Accidentally killed while on active service, on 4th October 1914, aged 20. Son of James and E. E. Walton, of 79, Croft Street, Preston.Privates James Walton, 22, and Ernest Holton, 26, of the 5th King's Own Regiment, were killed by an express train at Steventon level crossing, on Wednesday night, while going on patrol duty. Both men belonged to Calder Vale, near Garstang, and were members of the Garstang Company. (Morecambe Visitor, 7 October 1914)____________________________________________________________ CALDER VALE SIGNALLER WOUNDED.Signaller Frederick Onyett, of the King's Own, son of Mrs. Anderson Onyett, Calder Vale, has been wounded while serving in Mesopotamia. Three of the four brothers have served with the colours. An elder brother is also with the King's Own in Mesopotamia. Fred was only 17 last month, and has been in khaki the better part of two years. He was previously employed at Lune Mills and Calder Vale Paper Mills.
