WAR CASUALTY. - The sad news that a Towyn boy had succumbed to that terrible scourge, the enteric fever, in South Africa, cast a gloom throughout the whole district. Tommy Hughes, at the early age of twenty-one years, fell a victim to its ravages. He was the eldest son of Mr. Evan Hughes, late of Llechllwyd. He joined the 2nd Batt. South Wales Borderers about three years ago, and had been through the South African campaign. Great sympathy is felt with the parents of the deceased in their sad bereavement. ------------------------------------------------------ VOLUNTEERS. - The four young men volunteers now in South Africa were expected to return some time this month, but it is evident that they will not inasmuch as letters have been received from them which give no indication whatever of an immediate return. They are now stationed at Springfontein, having what rest there is to be got both day and night in the trenches, not knowing what it is to lay in a bed for several weeks. From what can be gathered from the letters, they have undoubtedly experienced hard times.
