Major Henry Edward Buchanan Riddell, King's Royal Rifles. Wounded at Lombard's Kop on 30th October 1899 and being smitten with fever during the siege of Ladysmith died at Pietermaritzburg on 16th March 1900 aged 40.
The woodwork of the altarpiece (not the painting of it) is a memorial to Lieutenant Colonel Robert George Buchanan-Riddell and was presented to the church by his widow in 1903. The painting of the woodwork, and of the screen and the chancel ceiling, and the provision of riddle curtains to the altar, was part of a scheme of decoration as a thankoffering for victory in the Great War, and as a memorial to the men of the district who served in it.
