Evan Arthur Leigh. Lost his life in the sinking of the S.S. Scholar of Rugby and Trinity College, OxfordCaptain Richard Whitaker Porritt, 1/5th Lancashire Fusiliers. Killed in action at Seclin on 26th May 1940, aged 29. Son of Lt.-Col. Austin Townsend Porritt, T.D., D.L., J.P., and of Annie Louise Porritt, of Grange-over-Sands. Honours Graduate, Cambridge University. Member of Parliament for the Heywood and Radcliffe Division of Lancaster, 1935-1940. THE OAKEN PEWS IN THIS CHURCH WERE GIVEN IN 1949 BY LT. COL. A.T. PORRITT J.P. D.L. T.D.
