24647 Private Stephen Hargreaves, Depot Battalion, The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Died 3rd June 1916, aged 32. Husband of Elizabeth Ethel Hargreaves, of 25, Lowndes Street, Preston.

427770 Private James Russell Cookson, 58th Canadian Infantry. Died of wounds on 20th November 1916, aged 22. Cookson sustained machine gun wounds to his right arm at Courcelette on 8th October 1916. While in hospital recuperating he developed nephritis and bronchitis and died at Bellhouston Hospital, Glasgow. He was the son of E. Cookson of Preston. James was working in the CPR locomotive sheds when he enlisted in the 46th Battalion at Moose Jaw in 1915. There is a note in his file that his correct surname was Hodgson but this is not corroborated by any other documents and, at any rate, he served as Cookson. svwm.ca/casualty-display/?ID=A000001169 n.b. His CWGC headstone is in front of the Cookson family headstone so it seems unlikely that his correct surname was Hodgson unless his mother had re-married.
