I was told by Congleton Tourist Information that, sometime in the 1960s, a Methodist Church in Congleton was demolished in order to build a new one. Whether by accident or deliberate oversight the building's war memorial was destroyed too; parts of the memorial were later found in a field.
This may be the present Trinity Church in Wagg Street as it has a definite 1960s look to it. Presumably the lost memorial was a stone tablet which couldn't be successfully removed from the building's fabric before demolition.
