Reverend William White died a prisoner of the French on 14th June 1806 during the Napoleonic Wars.
He was kept prisoner for four years by the French Government, dying at Verdun 14 June 1806; The obituary notice at the time stated that 'being one of the persons detained at the commencement of hostilities, numbers of his unfortunate countrymen have experienced his benevolence'; Lancaster Gazette 19th July 1806.
