By Neil and Sue Richardson. Published by Neil Richardson, 1990. ISBN 1 85216 058 6
92 pages in a large-format size which really helps the lay-out and what has been included. There are 4 main parts to the book - the British Army in the Great War, Fields of Action, Fallen in the Fight and Letters Home.
'Fields of Action' covers nine parts of the world where men from Farnworth and Kearsley served and died. I found the descriptions of the actions in Mesopotamia, Salonika, Egypt and Palestine, East Africa and Russia very interesting as these tend to, understandably, receive less coverage than France and Belgium.
'Letters Home' are letters from serving soldiers which appeared in the local newspapers.
The names of the Fallen, with brief biographies, appear street-by-street. This gives the list a particularly personal and poignant feel; in the book's index are alphabetical lists of names and streets.
A most interesting book with a good selection of photos and maps of the different actions. Recommended.
