28890 Serjeant Edward Dickinson, 1st Garrison Battalion, Royal Scots. Killed on 8th April 1917, aged 36. Son of G. and B. Dickinson, of Bowness; husband of Mary Dickinson, of "Marlors," Arundel Avenue, Bispham, Blackpool. DICKINSON, Sergt. Edward, of Bowness, Royal Scots. This soldier, who is of Bowness parentage, has met with his death in the course of his military duties. He was stationed in Cyprus, and was sent to arrest an absentee soldier, and while doing so was stabbed. The result was fatal, for he died in hospital in Malta. He was 36 years of age. His wife lives at Blackburn and his father and mother on Biskey Howe Terrace. He went through the South African War.

442748 Lance Corporal Frank Nicholson, 54th Canadian Infantry. Killed in action on 18th November 1916, aged 32. Son of John and M. A. Nicholson, of Windermere.
KILLED IN ACTION
NICHOLSON, Corpl. F. - Mr. and Mrs. John Nicholson, Belmont, Bowness, received official information on Sunday that their fourth son, Frank, was killed in action in France on November 18th. Deceased was reported on December 10th as slightly wounded on Nov. 18th, but all enquiries by his parents failed to trace his whereabouts. He served his apprenticeship as a fitter with Messrs. Vickers at Barrow, and later entered his father's office for a time. About six years ago he went out to Canada, where he worked as an electrician. In 1915 he joined the Canadian Infantry, coming over to this country in November of that year, and last August went to France. He was in his 33rd year and unmarried.
