BELGIANS INVITED TO LANCASTER.
Mr. an Mrs. Joseph Hartley, of Meadowside, returned to Lancaster on Thursday after a short trip to Paris, which they had taken with the object of inducing Ms. Hartley's mother to return with them. The old lady, however, preferred to spend the winter in the vicinity of Paris. Mrs. Hartley met a Belgian officer's wife and child on the boat to Southampton, and invited them to Lancaster. The lady gratefully accepted the invitation. Mr. Hartley proposes to give his experiences in lecture form on behalf of the Distress Fund. He left Paris just as the news of the German retreat began to arrive, and saw one of the captured machine guns.

Belgian Aviator Returns to Duty.
Piette Jules, a Belgian aviator, who has been staying in Lancaster, has returned to duty. He was in Antwerp when the city was besieged, and was sent to blow up the aerodrome when the Germans approached. He carried out his orders, and got out of Antwerp with difficulty. On November 22nd he had to report himself to the Belgian Military Bureau. Another Belgian, who has been staying in the district, Panel Von Weddingen, has also returned to the colours.
