Our photograph is of a Belgian refugee who came to St Helens in the early days of the German devastation of his country, named Alfons Cauvenberghs, a native of Campenhout. For some time past he has been working on Mrs. Joe Swift's farm at Windle, but left last week to join the Belgian Army. (St Helens Reporter, 28 January 1916)
