Second Lieutenant Joseph Lawrie Nelson, 18th Manchester Regiment. Killed in action on 8th March 1916, aged 19. Son of William Nelson, O.B.E., M.A., and Annie Nelson, B.A., of Old Trafford, Manchester.Roll of Honour.LIEUT. J. L. NELSONSecond-Lieut. J.L. Nelson, of the 18th Service Battalion, Manchester Regiment, was killed in action in France on the 8th March. Lieut. Nelson was the second son of Mr. William Nelson, of the Royal Schools for the Deaf, Old Trafford. He was educated at the Manchester Grammar School and Appleby School. He joined the Royal Scots in November, 1914, and obtained his commission in the Manchester Regiment in January, 1915. Only last week word was received from France that he had distinguished himself in the defence of an outpost with 13 men against 60 Germans, and had been "recommended" for the Military Cross.
