FOUR DAYS IN A TRENCH. A terrible experience has befallen Victor Black, an employé on the Dover National Harbour works. On Wednesday he fell into a military trench, seventy feet deep, at the Dover Citadel Barracks and broke both his legs. Here he lay helpless till Saturday, when his moanings attracted the notice of a passing workman. When drawn up by ropes he was delirious, and at the hospital his legs had to be amputated as gangrene had set in. The barracks near the spot have been closed since the Leicester Regiment left for South Africa. (Welsh Gazette and West Wales Advertiser, Thursday 17th April 1902)
