This is a photograph of three boys of the 5th Welsh now stationed at Bedford. It was taken during their stay at Burntisland, Fifeshire. Their names are: - Left, Bugler Gwilym John Lloyd, Aberaman; centre, Lance-Cpl. Hamments, Aberaman; right, Pte. E. Goddard, Treharris. The little chap was a regimental pet during their stay in Burntisland. (The Aberdare Leader, 24th July 1915) __________________________________________________ RECRUITING RALLY. - A great recruiting rally was held at Treharris on Saturday, a large number of recruits being obtained in consequence. The procession comprised a company of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, commanded by Captain Pollard, D.S.O., the Treharris Volunteer Training Corps, Boy Scouts, Ladies' Red Cross League, Boys' Brigade, and Church Lads' Brigade, and was headed by the Treharris Silver Band. The route taken was from Treharris to Edwardsville via Quakers' Yard. Meetings were held on the way, the speakers including a trumpeter who had served with Lord Roberts in the famous Kandahar march. Owens, a brother of Mrs. Lewis, 4, Prosser Street, Treharris, has been wounded in action and is now in hospital. (The Pioneer, Saturday 16th September 1916)
