PONTYPRIDD CANAL MYSTERY.
The mysterious death of the woman Adeline Fry, whose body was found in the canal at Pontypridd on Sunday morning, and in connection with which a soldier named David Morgan Lewis (or Dunn) is in custody charged on suspicion with being concerned in the death, was investigated by a coroner's jury on Monday afternoon. Edward Fry, a Ferndale colliery haulier, said deceased was his wife. She left him about ten years ago. He saw her at Ferndale a couple of months ago. Lewis was present at the inquest, which was adjourned for a week.

OUR SYMPATHY. - The sympathy of our Pontypridd and Rhondda readers will, we are sure, go out to Private Ernest West, formerly of Central Buildings, Trallwn, and ex-of a Wilshire Regiment, who was called up as a Reserve on the outbreak of war, and has since been invalided home as unfit for further service. Pte. West, who had never recovered, had recently another relapse, and was this week removed to Cardiff Infirmary, where it is feared that mortification will necessitate the amputation of one leg.

Opposition to Compulsion at Pontypridd.
ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING AT JUBILEE HALL.
An enthusiastic and largely attended meeting was held under the auspices of the local I.L.P. and N.C.F. Branches at the Jubilee Hall, Pontypridd, on Sunday, when the speakers were Messrs. John Thomas, B.A., Aberdare, and E. J. Williams, Pontypridd. The following resolution was proposed and seconded: -
That this meeting of Pontypridd and District Citizens demands the repeal of the Military Service Bill, and pledges itself to oppose any extension; also we call upon the Government to state in unequivocal language what Peace terms it is prepared to accept.
Mr. Thomas, on rising to support the resolution, was accorded a very enthusiastic reception, and enhanced his already fine reputation with a masterly oration which was greatly appreciated by the audience. He dealt very ably with the factors in the recruiting world since the beginning of the war, culminating with the Military Service Bill. He showed clearly the sinister motives behind the Northcliff agitation, and denounced the mal-administration of the Act.
Comrade Williams, who followed with a very able address, dealt with the industrial outlook, and pointed out cases of Prussianism occurring daily in the locality. He impressed upon the audience the necessity of uniting and strengthening the movement to fight and overcome the forces of reaction now at work.
The resolution, upon being put to the meeting, was carried overwhelmingly, there being only one dissentient.
This meeting was the most successful one held in the locality for some time, and, it is hoped, the forerunner of many similar ones in the future. Please note: It has been decided to hold a series of meetings every Sunday, when it is hoped we will be able to arrange a capital programme of good speakers. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the speakers for their services, and the meeting terminated with the "Red Flag."
