RESERVIST'S SAD FATE. A trooper in the 4th Hussars, named Fergusson, invalided home from South Africa, and who only arrived in Belfast on Saturday, to-day entered a restaurant in that city, and, while in conversation with the proprietor, suddenly took a fit, and expired before the arrival of the ambulance, which had been sent for. Deceased, who was on the Reserve, served fifteen months at the front, until enteric laid hold of him. (Evening Express, Wednesday 3rd April 1901) __________________________________________________ FOOTBALLER AND SOLDIER. Mr James M'Cashin, a well-known member of the Cliftonville Football Club, Belfast, to-day joined the North of Ireland regiment of Imperial Yeomanry at present being raised for service in South Africa. (Evening Express, Wednesday 8th January 1902) __________________________________________________ Friends in Belfast of Corporal Hamill, one of seven brothers at present serving in South Africa, has received intimation of his shocking death at Cape Town on the 23rd ult. Deceased, whilst on mounted military police duty, attempted to stop a wild rush of some 60 horses which had stampeded from the docks and were galloping along Somerset-road. He was thrown from his horse and trampled to death. The remains were interred with full military honours. (The Cardiff Times, Saturday 19th April 1902)
