SHROPSHIRE COUNTY APPEALS TRIBUNAL.
Mr. Roberts, Vron Farm, Selattyn, appealed on behalf of his son, Robert Roberts, farmer, Vron, 19 years of age and unattested. - The local tribunal gave him until Oct. 1, and the military representative appealed against that decision. - Appellant said he had two sons serving in the Army. - The decision of the local tribunal was upheld and the appeal of the military representative dismissed.

SHROPSHIRE COUNTY APPEALS TRIBUNAL.
David Thomas Roberts (23), farmer, Llwrypant Farm, Selattyn, who had been granted exemption till April 1 by the local tribunal, appeared to answer an appeal against that decision by the military representative. He said he farmed 88 acres and paid the rent, although his father, Robert Roberts, the Vron Farm, Selattyn, was the tenant. He was the only man on the farm, and had two brothers in the army. There were five brothers altogether. Robert Roberts, the father, appealed for the renewal of exemption granted to his son, Robert Roberts (20), cowman and shepherd at the Vron. - Mr. Lander suggested that David Thomas Roberts should be exempted and that Robert Roberts should go. - The first named was exempted till March 1, with power to appeal again, and Robt. Roberts was directed to go as soon as a substitute can be found.

Samuel Edwards (25), single, wagoner to Robert Edwards, Top Vron, Selattyn, who was exempted by the local tribunal until April 1, was appealed against by the military. - The appeal was refused, and the decision of the local tribunal was upheld, though appellant was advised to find a substitute as soon as possible.

Roberts, Corpl. James, Yeomanry.
Corpl. Roberts, whose home is at Selattyn, was killed in action on December 18. He had served for several years in the Shropshire Yeomanry before the war and went to France with his brother, Robert, in September. He was 37 years of age and leaves a widow and five children. Corporal Roberts was a son of Mr. Robt. Roberts, Vron Cottage, Weston Rhyn, and another of his brothers is serving with the A.S.C. in France.

Pte. Davies, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Davies, Cross Keys, Selattyn, is in hospital at Newcastle-under-Lyme suffering from trench feet.

FALLEN HEROES. - A memorial service for Corpl. Jas. Roberts and Pte. T. Arthur, Shropshire Light Infantry, who fell recently in action, was held at the parish church on Sunday morning, in the presence of an overflowing congregation, including a detachment of the Herefordshire Regiment, under the command of Colonel Symons Taylor. The service was conducted by the Rector, the Rev. Rossendale Lloyd, who also gave an appropriate address, and Major-General Montgomery read the lessons. At the end buglers of the Herefords sounded "The Last Post." Subsequently, the military were entertained to dinner at various houses by residents in the village and immediate neighbourhood. Sergt-Major A. Price, Weston Rhyn, made the arrangements for this hospitality.

Pte. Ellis, youngest son of Mrs. E. Ellis, Selattyn, was killed in action in Palestine, Nov. 30. He joined the colours in November, 1914, and went out to Egypt with the Yeomanry. Prior to enlistment he was employed in the boiler-shop in the Cambrian Locomotive Works, Oswestry.

Crossley, Pte. J. N., Welsh Regiment.
Pte. Crossley, son of Mr. A. Crossley, Selattyn, formerly apprentice dispenser with Drs. Cartwright, Crofton and Cartwright, has been admitted to the Warren Road Military War Hospital, Guildford, suffering from the after effects of gas, and trench fever. He joined up in March, 1917, crossed to France in January, 1918, and was gassed in March. This was followed by

MILITARY FUNERAL. - The funeral took place on January 11 of Mr. D. W. Ellis, Ferndale, late Staff Sergeant, General Headquarters, Royal Engineers, Italy, who died from the effects of military service. He received his discharge from the Army on November 30, after having served in France and Italy, and was the first Selattyn man to win the military medal. He was the eldest son of Mrs. E. Ellis, Selattyn, who has now lost two sons in the war, the youngest being killed in action in Palestine, in November, 1917. The body was conveyed on a gun carriage to the Hengoed churchyard, together with firing party, bugler and bearers, and the Rev. T. Little, Wesleyan minister, Oswestry, conducted the service both in the Wesleyan Chapel, Gobowen, and at the graveside.

WESLEYAN CHURCH, BURNT HOUSE. - A successful entertainment was held on Thursday evening by a glee party conducted by Mr. W. Rowlands, Oswestry, the proceeds of which will be devoted to provide a suitable memorial for members of the Church who have fallen in the war. Mr. J. Burgess presided over a crowded audience. The glee party rendered anthems and quartettes, Miss Rowlands, solo, Misses Davies and Jones, duet, Mr. Geo. Osborne, cornet and violin solos, Pte. Fowles, Park Hall Camp, organ selections, and Miss Annie Roberts, recitation. Miss May Roberts, Liverpool Road, was the accompanist.
