The first church building, in Nile Street, Burslem, contained a War Shrine and Memorial Chapel; this was a conversion, in 1917-1918, of the south porch. There was a small stained glass window bearing the inscription "To the Glory of God and in honour of the soldier St.Maurice and in loving Memory of Charles Edmund Boote of this Town Lieut.-Col.: 6th North Staffs. Regt. (late Major 5th N. Staffs. Regt. T.F.) Killed in Action July 1, 1916"
A brass sanctuary lamp was given in memory of John James Warburton, who was killed in December 1917. The painting of the chapel was carried out by a pupil of the Burslem School of Art under the superintendance of its Principal, Gordon Forsyth, and there was eventually a row of photographs down each side of the chapel, with a niche for a vase of flowers above each. From 'Holy Trinity, Sneyd' by Beryl Warburton.
The church was moved to Hamil Road in 1956 and the chapel's dedicatory plaque and the lamp are now there; the window was put in the sacristy and although there is a window dedicated to St Maurice there's no other dedication.

The, then-uninscribed, tile was part of the floor in the War Memorial Chapel.
What happened to the photographs of the Fallen? Did someone keep them safe?
