THE VOLUNTEERS FOR THE FRONT. - On Saturday evening a small presentation was made to the three local volunteers, Messrs. Thos. Clapham, J. Mullen and L. Birkbeck, who have been accepted for service in South Africa. The presents took the shape of a pound of tobacco or cigarettes, a pipe and two pairs of socks each. There was a good number of persons present, and Mr. Wm. Metcalfe was voted to the chair. Lieut. Tate made the presentation. The three men were accorded a hearty send-off on Sunday evening, the band playing them through the streets, and some four or five hundred persons gave them three hearty cheers as they left for Bentham.
