34129 Private John George Capstick, 1st South Staffordshire Regiment. 4th August 1917, aged 28. Son of John and Sarah Capstick, of Beckside, Howgill; husband of Elizabeth Capstick, of Murthwaili, Fell End, Ravenstonedale. Not named on the Ravenstonedale memorial but a J. Capstick is named on the church's roll of honour, but as having survived. CWGC database gives his first name as James.
DIED ON SERVICE CAPSTICK, Lance-Corpl. John, South Staffordshire Regt., is reported dead in India. Lance-Corpl. Capstick was the son of Mr. John Capstick, of Beckside, Howgill. He originally enlisted in the Border Regt. but before going out to India was transferred to the South Staffordshires. He had been in India a few months when he succumbed to dysentery at the Colabra Hospital, Bombay, on August 4th. He was 29 and leaves a widow and one son.
