Captain Ernest Cyril Miller, 3rd, attached 1st, The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Killed in action on 23rd October 1914, aged 36. Son of the late William Pitt Miller and Emilie Mary Miller, of Merlewood, Grange-over-Sands; husband of Mrs. C. Miller. Captain E. C. Miller Killed in Action.
Official intimation has been received that Capt. E. C. Miller, of the 3rd Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, has been killed in action at the Front. He was drafted out from Felixstowe about the middle of September, and was attached to the 1st Battalion L.N.L. He was the third son of the late Mr. W. P. Miller, Thistleton Lodge, and Mrs. Miller, Merlewood, Grange-over-Sands, and he was a nephew of Mr. T. H. Miller, Singleton Park. He was a qualified instructor of musketry, and had served since October, 1903. He became lieutenant in July, 1905, and got his company in June, 1906. He was about 35 years of age, and was married in November last and resided at Milnthorpe. His younger brother, Captain J. H. Miller, also of the 3rd L.N.L. Regiment, was wounded in the earlier fighting, receiving a bullet through his shoulder. He is now at Grange-over-Sands, and is progressing favourably. 15803 Private Harry Alfred Taylor, 1st The Buffs (East Kent Regiment). Died, of wounds received in action, on 7th May 1917, aged 49. Son of Frank and Elizabeth Fisher Taylor, of Barrow-in-Furness.
DIED OF WOUNDS. TAYLOR, Pte. Harry, the Buffs, who has died from wounds, was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, of Newlands, Grange. Born in 1869, he was educated at Sedbergh School. Previous to joining the colours in February of last year, he worked most energetically in connection with the national recruiting campaign for Kitchener's Army. Being unable at the time to obtain a commission, he joined the ranks as a private. He went across to France last November with the Buffs, and was severely wounded in action. He died in hospital in France on the 7th inst. His son, Francis George, was killed in action in January, 1915, at the early age of 18. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TAYLOR. - On the 7th inst., in Hospital in France, of wounds received in action, Harry Alfred Taylor, The Buffs Regiment, beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, of Grange-over-Sands, aged 48 years. Also, in loving memory of Francis G. Taylor, King's Royal Rifles, only son of the above Harry Alfred Taylor, killed in action 10th January, 1915, aged 18 years.
