RED CROSS SOCIETY. - On Friday afternoon a very successful sale of work was held in the Schoolroom. The function was a combined action on the part of the villages of Arkholme, Gressingham, and Whittington. Mrs. Shepherd and a committee had charge of the local arrangements, energetic working committees being also appointed in Gressingham and Whittington. The sale, which was opened by Mrs. North, of Newton Hall, was extremely well patronised. There was also an interesting exhibition of fine art work, the efforts of a wounded soldier, Corpl. W. Rawlinson, Stockbridge, Low Gill ; whilst Mrs. Mason, of Chapel Cottage, Arkholme, gave a practical illustration of the making of Maltese lace. Mr. Harper, of Barbon, gave his services as auctioneer. The total proceeds, including donations and proceeds of the concert held recently amounted to upwards of £176.
