WOUNDED. News was received on New Year's Day by Mr. and Mrs. Allan, who reside at 21, Duke-street, Chorley, to the effect that their son, Private Thomas Allan, 7th Border Regiment, had been wounded in the leg, whilst serving in France. Pte. Allan enlisted on November 16th, 1914, and went to France in July last. (Chorley Guardian, 8 January 1916) ____________________________________________________________
14296 Private James Hunter, 9th The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Died from injury on 29th December 1916.
CHORLEY SOLDIER'S DEATH AT THE FRONT.
Intimation has been received of the death in France, from injury to the spine, of Pte. James Hunter (51), Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, whose home was 83, Anderton-street, Chorley. Though well over the military age, Hunter enlisted over two years ago, and had been at the front for 14 months. Previously he was employed at Ellerback Colliery. He has two sons serving, and a third son tried to enlist several times, but was rejected. (Lancashire Daily Post, 10 January 1917)
