READ AND THE WAR. A meeting of the Read Parish Council was held in the National School on Monday evening. The Rev. A. E. Mills presided, and there were present Messrs. J. Kemp, T. Tomlinson, W. Hope, E. Rushton, and E. Hope, clerk. The Council decided to open a fund for the township for the widows and orphans of soldiers killed in the Transvaal war. Mr. E. Rushton was appointed treasurer.
