VOLUNTEERS FOR THE FRONT. - The members of I Company of Volunteers, residents of Langdale, who are elected to go to the front, visited home from Carlisle from Saturday till Monday. The four men - Privates Kirkby, Fairclough, Rawes and Dover - all looked remarkably fit, and were in the highest possible spirits, full of enthusiasm at the idea of seeing what life is at the front. They spoke highly of the preliminary training at Carlisle, and eulogised their officers and comrades generally. They had a quiet but cordial reception in Langdale, and many were the hearty wishes expressed for their future well-being. On Monday evening, when the men again left home for Carlisle, a good many friends assembled to bid them farewell, and to wish them God speed. A subscription raised on their behalf, and amounting to about £9, was divided amongst them prior to their departure, to furnish necessary additional comforts en route. The additional clothing, etc., requisite, has been paid for by the committee in charge of the balance of the War Fund.
